The numbers

Commercial electricity is a cost line that keeps moving.

Solar makes it the one that doesn’t. Fix the rate for 25 years instead of renegotiating it every contract cycle.

Two paths

Own the asset, or buy the energy.

We model both sides of the decision in every proposal so you can make the call on the economics that matter to you: payback, cashflow, balance sheet, or ownership.

Path 1

Direct purchase

Buy the system outright or with commercial finance. SIPENERGY designs, installs, and commissions. You own the asset, claim the depreciation, and keep 100% of the energy savings.

  • 4–6 year payback on a well-sized system
  • Full savings flow to your P&L from day one
  • Depreciation and tax-deductible finance interest
  • Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) or Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs) depending on system size
  • 25-year panel warranty, 12-year workmanship

Best for businesses with healthy cashflow and long-term occupancy.

Path 2

Power Purchase Agreement

Zero upfront capital. SIPENERGY designs and installs the system; Agile Energy funds, owns and maintains it for the life of the agreement. You only pay for the energy the system produces, at a fixed rate typically 20–40% below grid.

  • $0 upfront capex, off-balance-sheet
  • Predictable $/kWh rate, indexed or fixed
  • Maintenance, monitoring, and replacement included
  • Generation data reported for your own energy reporting
  • End-of-term options: ownership transfer, extend, or remove

Best for businesses prioritising cashflow or off-balance-sheet treatment.

PPA eligibility

What makes a PPA work.

Your bill and your usable roof decide it — together they set the system size, and a PPA needs at least 50 kW to stack up. Clear those and it is likely a strong fit.

Industries

Where commercial solar earns its keep.

Any premises with 30kW+ of roof-ready capacity and a meaningful daytime load is a candidate. These are the verticals we install in most often.

  • Clubs & RSLs

Leagues clubs, RSLs, and community sporting clubs with large roofs and weekend peak loads.

  • Warehousing & logistics

Distribution centres, storage, and 3PL sites. Big flat roofs and high refrigeration load = strong payback.

  • Manufacturing

Food, building products, and industrial. Continuous daytime operations that match solar production exactly.

  • Automotive

Dealerships, service centres, and multi-site workshops. Showroom loads + EV charging = compounding fit.

  • Education

Private schools, colleges, and training facilities. Daytime-heavy consumption aligns perfectly with solar.

  • Aged care & retirement

High HVAC and hot-water load through the day, plus predictable long-term occupancy. Ideal for PPA.

  • Multi-site retail

Shopping centres, supermarkets, and chain retail. Portfolio-wide rollouts unlock per-site procurement pricing.

  • Property groups

Landlord-led installs with tenant pass-through, and embedded network opportunities across a portfolio.

The process

From first bill analysis to first generation.

  1. Assess

We pull 12 months of interval data, review your bill, and map roof-ready capacity. Output: a business case with direct-purchase and PPA side by side.

  2. Design

Our engineers size the system for your consumption profile, handle DA, grid connection approval, and rebate paperwork (STCs, LGCs and PRCs).

  3. Install

SAA-accredited installers work around your operations: weekend, night, or staged. Only the final switchboard connection needs a short scheduled outage.

  4. Commission & monitor

We commission, test, and hand over with live production monitoring. Ongoing service and performance reporting are included on every system.

Frequently asked

Questions commercial buyers ask.

What size commercial solar system do I need?

Your bill is the starting point. We size commercial systems for premises spending anywhere from about $1,000 a month up to $30,000 a month, which covers most of the 30kW to 500kW range. The bigger the bill and the more usable roof you have, the larger the system that makes sense. Actual sizing follows an analysis of your 12 months of interval data, roof area, and daytime consumption profile.

PPA vs direct purchase: which is right for us?

Direct purchase delivers the best total return (4–6 year payback, full savings, depreciation benefits) and suits businesses with healthy cashflow and medium-to-long-term certainty at the premises. A Power Purchase Agreement suits businesses that prefer zero capex, off-balance-sheet treatment, and a predictable monthly cost, with Agile Energy funding, owning and maintaining the asset rather than the business. SIPENERGY models both side by side in every commercial proposal.

What industries does SIPENERGY work with?

Car yards and dealerships, clubs and RSLs, warehousing and logistics, manufacturing (food, building products, industrial), private schools and education, aged care and retirement, and multi-site retail. We scope any commercial premises with 30kW+ of roof-ready capacity.

What are the tax benefits of a direct commercial solar purchase?

Commercial solar systems are depreciable business assets, typically written off over their effective life (or immediately under applicable instant asset write-off thresholds where eligible). Interest on any finance is tax deductible, and energy savings flow straight to the bottom line. Speak to your accountant for your specific treatment.

Can we install during operating hours?

Yes. Commercial installs are scheduled around your operations. Weekend, night, or staged work is standard for retail and manufacturing sites. For warehouses and large roofs, we typically install during business hours with minimal disruption. The only essential downtime is the final switchboard connection, which is usually 1–2 hours and scheduled out of hours.

Does SIPENERGY install interstate?

Yes. Most of our work is across NSW — Sydney, Central Coast, Hunter, Illawarra, Blue Mountains and Southern Highlands — and we also install in Queensland and Victoria.

How long does a commercial install take?

System design and engineering runs 2–4 weeks. Installation runs 1–4 weeks on site depending on system size and roof access. Grid connection approval adds 4–12 weeks depending on network. Total: 8–20 weeks for a typical 100–250kW project from signed proposal to switch-on.
